Day 4, Odessa

Rome has its famous catacombs and so does Paris. But the city with the largest network of underground tunnels is undoubtedly Odessa, Ukraine. Its 2,500 kilometers eclipses the 300 kilometers found in Rome and the 500 kilometers in Paris. They were used for various nefarious purposes over the years and as a base for partisans during World War II.

The Yalta Conference was held in Livadia Palace in 1945, when the palace housed the apartments of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

The unique geographic location and navigation conditions of the city make Sevastopol a strategically important naval point. Panorama Museum contains an eminent work of battle painting and a monumental memorial to the heroism of the Sevastopol's defenders in the period of the Crimean War of 1853-1856. Naval museum complex Balaklava is an underground submarine base in Crimea (originally known as Object 825 GTS). Models of warships, various elements of submarines’ armory, naval armaments and ammunition, memorabilia and unique documents are exhibited there.
